Pre-Op Appointment June 27, 2008
Today I had my pre-op appointment at the hospital. I was told it would take approximately 4 hours! I was completely dreading having to sit in the hospital for 4 hours this afternoon, but thankfully it only took about and hour and a half! I really didn’t know what to expect at the appointment. When I got there I was given some paperwork to fill out and then taken to a classroom. Three other women were there as well. First a nutritionist came in and talked about what and when we would be eating in the hospital. It was pretty much basic information that we’d already been told. Nothing the day of surgery, ice chips the next day and then clear liquids the next day. Next a woman from the surgeons office came in and had us complete a couple more forms and went over any questions we had. She also weighed everyone and took our before pictures. I was down 5.9 pounds since my first appointment with the surgeon. After that the nurse came in and went over some things we should expect while in the hospital and tought us how to use the spirometer. We were also given a surgical wash to use the morning before the surgery.
I found out today that my surgery got pushed to 3pm. It was originally scheduled for 10:20; however my surgeon has a family member having surgery at the same time. That is going to be a hard day. On Sunday I am only allowed to have clear liquids: water, Jell-o, broth, sugar free popsicles and crystal light. I am also supposed to take 3 tablespoons of milk of magnesia to “clean me out”. That should be fun. I am not allowed to have anything after midnight on Sunday…not even water. So, come 3pm on Monday I am not going to be a happy camper!
It was nice to be around other people having the same surgery and kind of put me at ease. But tonight I am starting to really get freaked out. I have never had surgery, so I’m getting really scared! I guess I just need to try and not think about it so much!
